SOLIDS, LIQUIDS, & GASES... LEARNING ABOUT PROPERTIES OF MATTER

In Science we are working on a unit called the Properties of Matter... we discussed and observed solids by looking around the room to identify what a solid is. We discussed liquids, and that they always take the shape of their container. We talked about a balloon and that it has gas inside of it, and that it takes that shape. The first experiment we did in Science class was to mix water with oil, salt, and sugar. Before we did the experiments, we made predictions on chart paper. During our next Science lesson we began by making conclusions on what happens when you mix oil with water, sugar, and salt.

Preparing to mix water with oil ... using activity sheets to record findings ....

Having a discussion about what they think will happen when
oil is mixed with water ...

                                                 Adding in some salt ....

Mixing oil, salt, water, and sugar... will it mix or not????

Adding some more water to the mixture ...

                                                   Recording their findings ...

                                                  Having fun while experimenting ...
Some very serious recording going on ... :)
Checking if water, sugar, and oil mix ...
