Second graders went on a trip to The Brooklyn Children's Museum for a workshop on Native Americans. While we were there our presenter taught us about Totem Poles, and why Native American Dolls do not have a face. It was a very interesting tale. Native American dolls were supposed to be used as entertainment for children, but the dolls would spend too much time looking at themselves. So that the dolls would be used as entertainment for the children they remain faceless. The kids were fascinated by this story. The class also made symbols that represent them, and school to put on a Totem Pole. We used those symbols to put on our class Totem Pole. It was an awesome trip.
