Exploring With Scientific Tools
In Science we are just about ready to wrap up learning about What a Scientist does, and What kind of tools does a Scientist use. We focused on writing our own "Wonder" questions... we have many great future Scientists in the class and they had some great questions to ask. The most fun they had was exploring with Scientific tools. We used tweezers to pick up kernels of corn, and measuring cups to measure and pour water with a funnel. The kids loved wearing the goggles most of all.

What is a GREAT CLASSMATE???
In Second Grade I have been working with the kids on what it means to be a great classmate.. how do we treat our friends? How do we speak to them? I created a chart, and once or twice a week we sit together and discuss these ideas, and then they each get a colorful post it where they write something to put in one of the sections of the chart. I find that this serves as a good reminder for the kids to be sensitive and kind to their friends.

Learning About Short Vowels & Writing Proper Sentences
In Phonics and Grammar we were focusing on revisiting what Short Vowel is, and how to write a proper sentence. After our short mini lessons the kids broke up into centers where they had an opportunity to practice one of these skills. They used stamps to either stamp out short vowel words, or stamp out proper sentences. They played games to sort the short vowel words, and handouts to correct sentences.
